On the Nuremberg city circuit between the Frankenstadion and the Dutzendteich, it was the local hero who was able to prove his skills in the DTM race. After a difficult qualifying session on Saturday, he moved up from 18th place on the grid. In the junior classification, the Berchinger driver stood on the podium for the first time this season, finishing third.
The athlete, supported by Motorsport Team Germany, also managed to fight his way up the overall rankings to fourth place. ‘For me, the race was an absolute highlight. I had a very long break since the start of the season. As you can see, we were able to use this time very well as a team to prepare. Achieving such a result in front of numerous home fans is mega.’
In the second race, Thomi demonstrated his ability to keep track of the situation right from the start. Despite being only 17 years old, the BMW driver cleverly avoided unnecessary battles and was able to hand his car over to his teammate at the halfway point of the race without any collisions on the narrow city circuit.
In the end, ninth place was another top ten result at the end of a strong race weekend. ‘My conclusion from the three intense days at the Norisring is positive. Of course, the qualifying results do not meet my objectives. But 18 cars within half a second also show how high the performance level is and that minimal mistakes immediately affect the result. This makes our race results all the more impressive.’
Next up is another highlight on the calendar: the race weekend at the Nürburgring. On the legendary Eifel circuit, which attracted 280,000 spectators two weeks ago for the 24-hour race, Thomi wants to build on his momentum from the Norisring and take the next step in his development.
‘My positive development and results are, of course, partly due to our excellent preparation. However, equal credit must also be given to my partners, who make this possible. I look forward to continuing on this path together.’
