The fifth race weekend of the ADAC GT4 took place at the Red Bull Ring on 13 and 14 September. ADAC GT4 Germany For Thomi Rackl (17, ADAC Sports Foundation), it was a race marked by strong speed but also unfortunate incidents.

Training and qualifying

Thomi was already the fastest driver in the entire field in the second practice session on Thursday. In the first qualifying session, he secured 12th place on the grid, making him the best BMW driver. His teammate Linus finished 14th in the second qualifying session – also well ahead of the other BMW drivers.

Race 1 (Saturday)

Starting from twelfth on the grid, Thomi worked his way up to eighth place. In turn 3, he was hit while braking, spun and lost control of the car. No penalty was imposed on the driver who caused the accident. This meant that a possible top result and important championship points were lost.

Race 2 (Sunday)

Hahne started the second race from 14th place. On the very first lap, he had to swerve to avoid a spinning car and skidded into the gravel trap, causing the duo to drop back to 20th place. From there, the chase began: Hahne handed over the car in 11th place, and Thomi drove up to 7th – once again the best BMW and with lap times worthy of a podium finish.

Conclusion

The appearance at the Red Bull Ring brought a lot of bad luck, but also confirmation of the high speed. Thomi Rackl and the ADAC Sports Foundation are now looking forward to the ADAC GT4 Germany season finale with motivation.
